# Google integration

You can connect a Google account to Assista X so the assistant can work with your Gmail and Google Calendar next to your Odoo data. The integration is opt-in, and you choose exactly what it may do.

## What you can do

| Permission | Group | What the assistant can do |
| :--- | :--- | :--- |
| **Send emails** | Gmail | Draft and send emails on your behalf, on your instruction |
| **List emails** | Gmail | Show subjects, senders and previews |
| **Read full email content** | Gmail | Read the body of emails to answer your question |
| **View events** | Google Calendar | See your schedule and meetings |
| **Create & edit events** | Google Calendar | Schedule and change calendar events, on your instruction |

> **Warning.**
>
> **Read full email content** sends email bodies to your configured AI provider so that it can process your request. Turn it on only if you accept that.

## Connect your Google account

1. Open **Settings > Integrations** ("Connect Google to enable Gmail and Calendar features").
2. Next to **Google Account**, select **Connect**.
3. In the **Connect Google Account** window, tick the permissions you want. The window says "Choose what the assistant can access. You can reconnect anytime to change these."
4. Select **Connect** and approve access on the Google consent screen.
5. You return to Settings. **Google Account** now reads "Connected as" with your address, and a badge for each permission you granted: **Send email**, **List emails**, **Read full email**, **View calendar** and **Edit calendar**.

## Use it in the chat

* **Emails.** Ask the assistant to write, draft or send an email. It shows an email card headed **New Message** with **To** and **Subject** fields and the body. Select **Send** to send it. The email goes out only when you select **Send**. After sending, the card is headed **Email Sent**, and a footer says "Sent via Assista X". If sending fails, the card is headed **Email Failed**.
* **Not connected yet.** If you have not connected Google, the card shows **Connect to Send** instead of **Send**. It shows "Redirecting..." while it takes you to Google.
* **Calendar.** Ask about your schedule or ask the assistant to schedule an event, within the permissions you granted.

## Change permissions or disconnect

* To change permissions, disconnect and connect again. A connection made before a permission existed does not gain it automatically.
* To disconnect, open **Settings > Integrations** and select **Disconnect**. The app shows "Google disconnected". Assista X revokes the token with Google and deletes the stored records.

## What is stored and sent

* Assista X stores your Google refresh token and connected email address, encrypted at rest.
* Short-lived access tokens are kept only in memory for the time Google allows, and are never written to permanent storage.
* Email and calendar content is fetched when you ask. It is sent to the AI provider you configured, with your own key, to answer your question. It is not stored in the Assista X database, and it is not used to train models.
* Assista X's use of Google data follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

See [Security and privacy](/assista-x/security-and-privacy/) for the rest of the data flow.

## Tips and limits

* Grant only what you need. Leave **Read full email content** off if you only need subjects and senders.
* Sign-in with Google (to open Assista X) and the Google integration (for Gmail and Calendar) are separate. Signing in does not grant access to your mail or calendar.
* If a connection fails you see "Failed to initiate Google connection". Try again. If it keeps failing, see [Troubleshooting](/assista-x/troubleshooting/).
