# Download and install Assista IDE

Install Assista IDE on Windows, macOS or Linux, then sign in and set up your first Odoo project. Installing the IDE takes a few minutes. Setting up Odoo needs a few more tools. See the [prerequisites](/assista-ide/prerequisites).

## Supported platforms

| Platform | Requirement | Installer |
| :--- | :--- | :--- |
| Windows | Windows 10 or later, 64-bit (x64) | Installer (`.exe`) |
| macOS | macOS 12 or later, Apple Silicon | Disk image (`.dmg`) |
| Linux | Ubuntu 20.04 or later, 64-bit | Snap package |

Download Assista IDE from the [download page](https://assista.cybrosys.com/download). It has the current installer for each platform.

## Install

**Windows**

1. Download the Windows installer from the [download page](https://assista.cybrosys.com/download).
2. Run the installer and follow the prompts. The installer can add the `cybrosys-assista` command to your PATH. Leave that option on if you want to open projects from a terminal.
3. Start **Cybrosys Assista** from the Start menu.

> **If Windows warns you.**
>
> The Windows installer is not yet code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen can show "Windows protected your PC". Select **More info**, then **Run anyway**.

**Update:** Assista IDE on Windows does not update itself. Download the newest installer and run it over your current installation. The installer closes a running Assista IDE before it updates.

**Uninstall:** open **Settings** > **Apps** > **Installed apps**, find **Cybrosys Assista**, then select **Uninstall**.

**macOS**

1. Download the macOS installer from the [download page](https://assista.cybrosys.com/download).
2. Open the downloaded `.dmg` file.
3. Drag **Cybrosys Assista** into the **Applications** folder.
4. Open it from **Applications** or Spotlight.

The app is signed and notarized by Apple, so macOS should open it without extra steps. If macOS asks you to confirm that you want to open the app, select **Open**.

**Update:** download the newest installer from the download page and replace the app in **Applications**.

**Uninstall:** drag **Cybrosys Assista** from **Applications** to the Trash.

**Linux**
Install from the Snap Store:

```bash
sudo snap install cybrosys-assista --classic
```

The `--classic` option gives the IDE normal access to your files, terminal and development tools, which an editor needs.

Start it from your applications menu, or run `cybrosys-assista` in a terminal. To open a project from a terminal, run `cybrosys-assista <folder>`.

**Update:** Snap updates the IDE for you in the background. To update right away, run:

```bash
sudo snap refresh cybrosys-assista
```

**Uninstall:**

```bash
sudo snap remove cybrosys-assista
```

> **Wayland.**
>
> Assista IDE runs through X11. On a Wayland desktop it starts under XWayland automatically.

## Your settings and data

Assista IDE keeps your settings and extensions in a `.cybrosys-assista` folder in your home folder. Uninstalling the IDE does not delete it. Delete that folder yourself to remove your settings.

## Sign in

The first time you start Assista IDE with no folder open, the [setup wizard](/assista-ide/onboarding) opens and asks you to sign in with your Assista account.

1. Select **Login with Google**, or select **More ways to sign in** to use another method.
2. Your browser opens the Assista sign-in page. Sign in there.
3. Your browser hands you back to Assista IDE, and the wizard continues.

![The Assista IDE sign-in screen with the Sign in with Assista button](/assista-ide/img/sign-in.png)

Signing in turns on Assista's hosted models in Assista Coder. Sign-in is optional. Select **Skip and continue** to use the IDE without an account and add your own API key later.

If you do not finish signing in within 5 minutes, the attempt times out. Select the sign-in button again to restart it.

## Troubleshooting

| What you see | Fix |
| :--- | :--- |
| "Login timed out" | You did not finish signing in within 5 minutes. Select the sign-in button again |
| "Authentication Failed" with a message about the portal | Try signing in again. If it keeps failing, use **More ways to sign in** or skip sign-in |
| The browser does not return to the IDE after you sign in | Make sure Assista IDE is still open. Your browser may ask whether to open `cybrosys-assista`. Allow it |
| `snap: command not found` on Linux | Install Snap for your distribution, then run the install command again |
| Windows SmartScreen blocks the installer | Select **More info**, then **Run anyway** |
| The Snap install seems to hang | Snap downloads the package first. Wait for it to finish. Run `snap changes` to see progress |
| Running as root on Linux is refused | Run the IDE as your normal user. If you must use root, pass a `--user-data-dir` folder |

For anything else, see [Support](/support) and include your operating system and the IDE version.
